Self-confidence plays a huge part in our everyday lives. Our self-confidence affects our social life, other people first impression of us, and our well-being in general. You may not have noticed it, but people envy those with super high self-confidence, those who can just get up on stage in front of hundreds of people and not even break a sweat, right? However those same people seem to be under the impression that you’re either born with that kind of confidence or you’re not. And that’s where they would be wrong… Your self-confidence is actually something that can be worked on, improved, and developed. Here are 5 ways to help boost your self-confidence:
your best accessory is your smile. Its free, its natural, and it instantly separates you from the miserable bastards. The first thing people notice about you is your teeth, trust me. So it makes sense to look after our teeth; I mean you only get one set… Got perfect teeth? Awesome! Lucky you, however unfortunately not everyone was blessed with a perfect set of gnashers. What does this mean for you? Well if you live in the UK, Canada, Australia or another commonwealth country, you probably got braces for free as a kid to fix your smile; if however that boat has sailed (or you live somewhere with private health care) there are still options out there, but they’ll cost you… Is it worth it? Absolutely, a killer smile will sky-rocket your confidence, not to mention make you considerably more attractive. On a quick side note, if you’re still undergoing orthodontic treatment do not rush it!! And stick to it. I cannot emphasise this enough, I made the mistake of getting my braces off too early, and I regret it.
Okay so moving on, crooked teeth are only half of the equation, and a lot of the time people resort to teeth whitening methods seeking out that perfect white smile. If you’re using teeth whitening that’s totally cool, however a lot of the time the problem is ‘over brushing’ believe it or not brushing too hard and for too long strips the top layer of enamel off your teeth; leaving behind the slightly yellower surface underneath. It’s simple fix.
Feed your brain
Self-confidence booster number two is to feed your brain; think of your brain as a muscle (Yes I know it’s an organ) it needs flexing, and pumping from time to time too! You wouldn’t neglect your biceps now would you? So why neglect your brain? Intelligence is a serious confidence boost, knowing something that others don’t gives us a sense of pride and prowess. In a generation of information, knowledge is power and we should learn to exploit that. This can be simply reading a book for 10 minutes everyday, (Don’t like reading? Yeah me nether, check out audible instead.) watching the news, (even better: Read the news in the paper) or teaching yourself something new, like a new language! Every little helps, you should never stop learning.
Do one good thing for your body every day
Yeah yeah, here we go again talking about fitness, but its important! Whether that’s doing 20 push ups in the morning and a couple sit ups, that’s still 20 push ups more than the next guy. It’s all about doing as much for yourself as you can. Even small amounts of exercise can keep you looking lean and fit, which is going to work wonders for your confidence. Unfortunately however, exercise is just half of the equation (maybe even less) so filling up your body with the good stuff in the morning will leave you feeling epic for the rest of the day. Have you ever ate so much junk food you feel like crap? Yeah, me too. And when you feel like crap you look like crap and it’s a never-ending spiral. Moral of the story? Eat as much good stuff as you can to look, and feel at your best.
Do something good for someone else
If you’ve ever been complimented by someone you’ll know that it feels awesome, and that you instantly like them for it. Although receiving compliments is great for your self-confidence, it actually works just as well the other way around. Yes this means you actually have to be nice to people (I know it sucks) but when you pay someone a compliment ‘Nice shoes, are they new?’ or whatever, they feel awesome, you feel awesome and they instantly like you, its a win, win. It’s like a confidence kick in the arse, you can’t go wrong. I defiantly suggest you guys give it a go.
Take pride in your appearance
Ahhh here we are again, everything seems to boil down to appearance, and for good reason too. If you look like you’re killing it you’ll probably feel like it too, if you look like you just crawled out of bed then yeah, you guessed it, you’re gonna feel like crap. Gentlemen your appearance says a lot about you, not good with words? No problem, let your appearance do the talking. When you look good and you know you look good, you confidence hits the roof, and other people can see it too.
