I’m sure if you put your mind to it there are hundreds of you things you would rather have done today. If not, awesome! Good for you; if yes, well what are you going to do about it? The reality is that life gets in the way, we get caught up in work, studying, and commitments; and it sucks… Imagine your life as a book, each day is a new page and each year is a new chapter (Or something like that) would you keep reading? Or would you put it down and never bother with it again. The harsh reality is that you only live once; although if you do it right, once is enough.
So What Is A Bucket List?
A bucket list is basically a theoretical list of things you would love to do at some point in your life. The crazier the better. (Just make sure they’re realistic) A typical bucket list will look something like this: (Bare in mind everyone is different, and therefore may have totally different things)
- Bungee Jump
- Sky Dive
- Fly a plane
- Swim with dolphins
- Scuba dive at the great barrier reef
- See the wonders of the world
- Go base jumping
- Learn a new language
It’s completely customisable! Some people may have things such as ‘become a parent’ or ‘buy a house’, however those are things most people accomplish anyway, the more extravagant the better. The idea is that its your own personal list and gives you abit of incentive and something to work towards.
Why make a bucket list?
If you’re not already convinced, here are a couple more incentives:
Having something to work towards and look forward too brings a whole lot of excitement into your life. If you’re anything like me then you love achievement. It’s really satisfying constructing your list full of things you would love to do! Then gradually ticking them off as time passes by.
Force yourself to get out of your comfort zone. There’s likely loads of things you would like to do but you wont, either because you’re ‘too old’, ‘not fit enough’ ‘or its just not for you’. Excuses, excuses. People will come up with a lot of bullshit before they actually commit to doing something they’re not comfortable with. You don’t want to grow old and think ‘what if?’. ‘The best things in life are on the other side of fear’ – Will Smith.
The Law of ATTRACTION. Just the simple act of writing it down and reviewing your Bucket List will work miracles in bringing it into your life. The law of attraction shows us that. The more often you review your list and imagine yourself actually participating in the activity, the easier and quicker the it will come to you. (it’s science)
The chances are you already have a couple ideas of what would go into your list. The best part is that you don’t need to sit there and brainstorm. When you experience something incredible and think ‘I want to do that’ write it down! What are you waiting for?
